Computers In Retail

For a discussion, I was tasked with explaining how computers affected an industry, and the industry I chose to dive into was the retail industry. I also am going to do this from the perspectives of two sides, the shopper and the employee.

As someone who grew up during the rise of online shopping, I can certainly say that using computer systems to host and utilize online shopping has made it a lot easier for people, including myself, and also created a trend where a lot of people do shopping online and, in the cases of purchasing retail services such as internet, almost streamlined the process so that people can avoid long lines if they want to.

On the employee side, I can imagine that it also streamlined a lot of tedious processes as well. Having worked in a retail department store and in a retail sales, I could not imagine how it would be without a computer to help not only keep track of things like inventory but also keep track of data as well. Using the data of products that are sold, it made shopping a little bit easier too since companies can use that data to provide things like recommended products, so then customers will keep buying products and gain insights on what products a company should sell.
